Banyuwangi Regency now features a new shopping destination, the ‘Batik Market,’ which serves as a tourist attraction and souvenir-hunting spot for visitors. The ‘Batik Market’ offers a wide array of authentic Banyuwangi and archipelago batik products, ranging from fabrics and apparel to accessories and handicrafts.
The opening of the ‘Batik Market’ was inaugurated by Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani, accompanied by Sigit Pramono at Taman Gandrung Terakota, Jiwa Jawa Resort, on Saturday (19/8/2023).
Ipuk expressed her gratitude to Sigit Pramono for his contributions to developing tourism and arts and culture in Banyuwangi.
“I hope this event serves as an inspiration for all of us to help preserve the rich cultural heritage of the archipelago, including batik. Batik is an ancestral heritage that we must take pride in and preserve,” said Ipuk.
Banyuwangi routinely holds the Banyuwangi Batik Festival, one of the main goals of which is to preserve and promote signature Banyuwangi batik, as well as to cultivate young batik designers.
“We hope that this ‘Batik Market’ can become a promotional platform as well as a marketplace for Banyuwangi Batik, so that it becomes increasingly well-known and attracts a broader consumer base,” Ipuk stated.
Meanwhile, Sigit Pramono, the founder of the ‘Batik Market’ and owner of Jiwa Jawa Resort, explained that the presence of the ‘Batik Market’ complements the existing destinations within the Taman Gandrung Terakota (TGT) area. At TGT, the Sendratari Meras Gandrung (SMG)—a dance performance wrapped in a distinctive Banyuwangi theatrical drama—is held every month. The Sendratari Meras Gandrung is also officially listed on the East Java provincial government’s Calendar of Events.
“This Batik Market will be held during every performance of Sendratari Meras Gandrung and also during other events at Taman Gandrung Terakota,” said Sigit.
In addition to opening the Batik Market, Regent Ipuk also inaugurated the Godin Batik House, initiated by Sigit Pramono. It serves as a physical and digital documentation center housing the most comprehensive collection of Banyuwangi batik, coastal batik, and other traditional batiks of the archipelago. This batik collection belonged to the late Sri Rahayu Kusindini (Godin), who was also a co-founder of Jiwa Jawa Resort.
The collection spans from the 1920s to the present day, offering a comprehensive historical perspective. “The Godin Batik House is a tribute to my late wife. I hope that with the establishment of the Godin Batik House, batik will become even more widely recognized and cherished by the public,” expressed Sigit Pramono.
The opening of the ‘Batik Market’ was accompanied by a series of events. On the first day, Saturday (19/8/2023), a Batik Talk was held, moderated by art curator and ISI Yogyakarta Postgraduate Lecturer Dr. Suwarno Wisetrotomo, followed by a batik-making workshop led by Indonesian Batik Maestro Dudung Aliesyahbana. In the evening, a Jam Session & Dinner: Road to Jazz Gunung Ijen 2023 took place.
Furthermore, on the second day, Sunday (20/8/2023), a Sunday Brunch and a Batik Fashion Show showcasing collections from renowned designers were held.

Jiwa Jawa Resorts hadir di Bromo, Ijen, dan Semarang sebagai hotel yang memadukan lanskap alam pegunungan dengan sentuhan karya seni yang indah.
