Jamaah Al-Jazziyah will enjoy a fresh experience at the BRI Jazz Gunung Series 3: Ijen (2025) music festival. Alongside musical performances, Jazz Gunung Indonesia, Jiwa Jawa Resort, in collaboration with ISI Yogyakarta, will present an Outdoor Visual Art Exhibition. Previously, a similar visual art exhibition was also held during BRI Jazz Gunung Series 1 & 2: Bromo (2025), running from July 19 to August 19, 2025, at Jiwa Jawa Resort Bromo, Probolinggo, East Java.
The presence of visual arts serves not only to complement the space but also to enrich the aesthetic experience for visitors. The Outdoor Visual Art Exhibition held at Taman Gandrung Terakota, Jiwa Jawa Resort Ijen, will feature the theme “Fora Fauna: The Art Zoo.” The exhibition will open on August 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM and will run for the following month, from August 9 to September 9, 2025.
At the BRI Jazz Gunung Series 3: Ijen (2025) festival, jazz enthusiasts will not only be pampered aurally, but this event will also open new fascinating horizons, serving as a momentous convergence of various visual art mediums and music within a single dialectical space.
A number of participants (lecturers and alumni) from ISI Yogyakarta will take part in this agenda. Curated by Mikke Susanto, the exhibition features participating artists such as Arlan Kamil, Arif Suharson, Albertho Wanma, Budi Hartono, Butet Kartarejasa, Dunadi, Daruslan, Endro Tri Susanto, Heru Siswanto, Hedi Hariyanto, Komroden Haro, M. Sholahudin et al., Nor Jayadi, Lutse Lambert DM, Dwita Anja Asmara, Purjito, and Timbul Raharjo.
The three-dimensional sculptures created by these ISI Yogyakarta lecturers and alumni will be placed throughout the open-air landscape of Taman Gandrung Terakota at Jiwa Jawa Resort Ijen, nestled against the natural slopes of Mount Ijen and surrounded by tropical forests, mist, and crisp, refreshing mountain air.
Symbolically, this exhibition goes beyond merely displaying animal figures; it invites visitors, through the artists’ works, to contemplate and respond to the threats facing our ecosystem, to rethink the relationship between humans and wildlife, and to celebrate the hidden meanings of the animal kingdom as a mirror of life or social/political critique.
Conceived as an “Art Zoo,” the exhibition aims to awaken public awareness regarding the preservation of forests and all their inhabitants. Each sculpture acts as an entity signifying the presence and voice of animals that have long remained hidden, neglected, or threatened with extinction.
As visitors stroll through the garden and come face-to-face with these artworks, they are invited to re-experience the spiritual, ecological, and emotional connection between humanity and fauna.
This exhibition serves as a space for contemplative imagination—as well as a space of hope—demonstrating that art can bridge compassion and nurture the balance of nature. This collection of works forms a fora (the plural of “forum”) where animals and their admirers engage in dialogue and mark their existence.

This Outdoor Visual Art Exhibition also represents a tangible form of collaboration between art institutions that mutually strengthen the creative ecosystem, namely Jazz Gunung Indonesia and ISI Yogyakarta. This partnership opens up cross-disciplinary opportunities that not only celebrate jazz as a musical expression, but also serve as a momentous meeting ground for various mediums of visual and musical arts.
In the evolution of contemporary visual arts, the connection between mountain jazz and visual arts has unlocked vast possibilities: an art form that is more fluid, multisensory, improvisational, and deeply intertwined with the universe.
