Taman Nitis Gandrung

Taman Nitis Gandrung tells the story of the relationship between Dewi Sri and the Gandrung Dancer. Dewi Sri is the Goddess of Rice or Goddess of Fertility who brings prosperity to farmers. She resides among the rice paddies and fields of farmers on the islands of Java and Bali.

Following the grand harvest, communities traditionally perform a dance known as the Gandrung Dance. This dance offering is an expression of the farmers' gratitude for the bountiful harvest. Local folklore believes that Dewi Sri incarnates into the body of the Gandrung dancer. Dewi Sri is ever-present in every post-harvest ceremony.
